Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to accessible education for all students

Our Commitment

High-School.ca is committed to ensuring that our online learning platform is accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. We strive to meet or exceed the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

AODA Compliance

As an Ontario educational institution, we comply with the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) under the AODA, including:

  • Education Standards

Our platform includes the following accessibility features:

Keyboard Navigation

Full keyboard access to all features without requiring a mouse

Screen Reader Support

Compatible with popular screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)

Text Alternatives

Alt text for images and transcripts for video content

Color Contrast

High contrast color schemes meeting WCAG AA standards

Resizable Text

Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality

Closed Captions

Video lessons include closed captions for deaf and hard of hearing students

Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

We support students with Individual Education Plans by providing:

  • Extended time for assessments and assignments
  • Alternative formats for course materials
  • Modified assessments as per IEP accommodations
  • Regular communication with parents/guardians about student progress
  • Collaboration with special education resource teachers

If you have an IEP from a previous school, please provide it during registration so we can ensure appropriate accommodations are in place.

Assessment Accommodations

Available accommodations for students with documented needs include:

  • Extended time (time and a half, double time)
  • Separate/quiet testing environment (for proctored exams)
  • Use of assistive technology (text-to-speech, speech-to-text)
  • Large print materials
  • Frequent breaks
  • Oral response options
  • Scribe services for written assessments

Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our platform is designed to work with common assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
  • Screen magnification software (ZoomText, Windows Magnifier)
  • Voice recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
  • Alternative keyboards and input devices
  • Switch access devices

  • Description of the accessibility barrier
  • The page or feature where the issue occurred
  • The assistive technology you were using (if applicable)

Alternative Formats

Course materials are available in alternative formats upon request, including:

  • Large print documents
  • Audio recordings of text content
  • Electronic formats compatible with screen readers
  • Braille (with advance notice)

Continuous Improvement

We are committed to ongoing accessibility improvements and conduct regular accessibility audits of our platform. Our accessibility practices are reviewed annually and updated as needed to meet evolving standards and student needs.
